Week 1- Getting Things in Order
Hello all! This is the first of a series of posts I plan to make as I create my new project “Spirit Game” (name pending for now). If you wanna know a little more about me as a person or see my really cute puppy, you can click here to read a bit more about me, but to those who just want a crash course, I’ll give you the TL;DR. I am a narrative and level designer who has had too much difficulty trying to get a job in the industry, so I thought I’d take a crack at doing my own thing, which is this new project! While its still in very VERY early in development, I’ll try my best to add screenshots, GIFs, documentations, etc. to this blog just as a way to document what is going on behind the scenes and act as a little teaser.
Now just as an intro to the actual game concept, “Spirit Game” is a narratively driven simulation-esque game where you play as a bartender/medium who can see ghosts. You serve them and strike up interesting conversations about the time the spend while alive and maybe help them move on through intense dialogue and bartending skills. As for the core gameplay loop, it would revolve around a day to day schedule where new and returning patrons will come into the bar and ask for a dink and walk about. As the sever, you can get their order and serve them, which is all fine and good, but everyone knows bartenders make the best therapy. If you befriend a patron enough, they will start to open up to you about what they were like when they were alive, why they are a ghost and haven’t moved on, and what is holding them back. Then it’s up to you to assist them in any way to help them grow and learn and pass along to the next life!
That’s the main gist of what the concept is, along with some narrative. Since this is still in its concept phase, there are still a lot of holes to fill, like what the players are doing in between patrons, interactions with the game world, or any other type of gameplay. These holes will only continue to be filled the more development comes along, which is the point of the blog! Now since there isn’t much to show, this first blog will be shorter than the rest, but and progress is progress, and each week, I’ll continue to update this blog with new content up to release!
Until then, hope you all have a spooky filled day!
